Gutter cleaning and property maintenance in Columbia, SC
The jobs that keep a home in good shape and never seem to make it to the top of the list: clean gutters, a clear roof, and the odd jobs around the outside of the house.
Gutter cleaning
Leaves, pine straw, and gunk scooped out of the gutters, and downspouts checked so water flows away from the house instead of over the edge and into your beds. More about gutter cleaning →
Roof debris removal
Pine straw, leaves, and small limbs cleared off the roof, out of the valleys, and from behind the chimney. Left there, wet debris holds moisture against the shingles long after the rain stops. Over time that wears the shingles out early, grows moss and algae, and lets water into the wood decking underneath, which is when you start seeing leaks, rot, and a big repair bill.
Regular maintenance is the cheap part. A couple of visits a year to keep the roof and gutters clear costs a fraction of replacing rotted decking or a section of roof.

Common questions
How often should gutters be cleaned?
At least twice a year in the Midlands: in late fall, after the leaves and pine straw come down, and again in spring. Homes under pines or big oaks often need it more.
Why get pine straw and leaves off the roof?
Because it damages the roof. Wet pine straw and leaves pile up in the valleys and behind chimneys and hold moisture against the shingles for days after every rain. That moisture breaks down the shingles, grows moss and algae, and eventually soaks into the wood decking underneath, which is how small problems turn into leaks and rot. Clearing it a couple of times a year costs a fraction of a roof repair.
What happens if gutters stay clogged?
Water spills over the edge instead of running down the downspouts. It rots the fascia boards the gutters hang on, backs up under the edge of the roof, and pools against your foundation. Clean gutters are one of the cheapest ways to protect the most expensive parts of your house.
